The Guilt of Fun: Why Moms Need Self-Care Breaks

As a mom, it's easy to fall into the trap of feeling guilty whenever you take time for yourself. Whether it's a night out with friends or a weekend getaway the guilt can creep in making you question if you're neglecting your responsibilities as a parent. But here's the truth: moms need self-care, and that includes time away to have a little fun.

I've experienced this guilt firsthand. Every time I make plans with my best friend from childhood, there's a part of me that feels guilty for leaving my family behind. But then, as soon as we start our adventure together, that guilt melts away, replaced by a sense of joy and rejuvenation. My best friend is more than just a friend; she's my lifeline.  She's the one who knows me inside and out, who can make me laugh until my sides ache, and who has been by my side through some of the toughest moments of my life. Our time together isn't just about having fun; it's about nurturing a relationship that brings balance, happiness, and appreciation into my life.

Being with my friend allows me to be more than just a mom. It gives me the opportunity to reconnect with myself, to indulge in adult conversations, and to remember the person I was before motherhood consumed every aspect of my identity. Whether were getting dressed up for a night on the town or lounging around in our pajamas, our time together is sacred.

And here's the thing: after every outing with my friend, I come home feeling more fulfilled, more energized, and more grateful for the blessing in my life. I realize that taking time for myself isn't selfish; it's necessary. It allows me to show up as the best version of myself for my family, because I've taken the time to recharge my own batteries.

So, to all the moms out there who struggle with the guilt of fun, I say this: don't be afraid to prioritize self- care. You deserve it. And remember, by taking care of yourself, you're also taking care of those you love. So go ahead and make those plans, have that fun, and count your blessings for the friends who make it all possible.
